Five people died of drowning, and two others were rescued after a vehicle carrying a wedding party lost control during the night and plunged into a pond near Indipur-Chhatia village in Odisha's Dhenkanal district.
The victims—identified as Ram Sahu (25), Abinash Sahu (26), Rakesh Kumar Sahu (25), Chandrakanta Swain (27), and Abhijit Sahu (25), including the groom's maternal cousin—were en route to the wedding in Indipur when the incident occurred.
Fire Services personnel and local villagers recovered the vehicle. Their bodies were sent to the Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem examinations, and police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
