Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya awarded the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service to five senior IPS officers during the 75th Assam Police Day celebrations at the 1st Assam Commando Battalion parade ground in Mandakata on October 1, 2026.

Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya conferred the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service upon five senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers during a ceremony held at the 1st Assam Commando Battalion parade ground in Mandakata, North Guwahati, on Thursday, October 1, 2026. The state-level event marked the 75th anniversary of Assam Police Day, honoring police personnel for operational leadership, counter-insurgency achievements, and sustained public service.

The five awardees recognized during the ceremony were:

  1. Surendra Kumar, IPS – Additional Director General of Police (Vigilance & Anti-Corruption)
  2. Partha Sarathi Mahanta, IPS – Commissioner of Police, Guwahati
  3. Kangkan Jyoti Saikia, IPS – Inspector General of Police (Eastern Range, Jorhat)
  4. Indrani Baruah, IPS – Inspector General of Police (Central Western Range, Guwahati)
  5. Ratna Singha, IPS – Inspector General of Police (Special Branch, Assam)

Addressing the gathering, Governor Acharya commended the police force for maintaining law and order, controlling crime, and ensuring public security across the state. Senior state officials, including Director General of Police Harmeet Singh, attended the event alongside state dignitaries and police personnel.
