The Digi Yatra project is set to expand its scope to include international travel and domestic flights for foreign passengers. The pilot programme will run between October and December at airports in Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kochi, and Mumbai.
Although Digi Yatra aims to enable face-based boarding at airports, the full implementation is delayed because of infrastructure gaps at various airports across the country. Authorities have announced that the biometric boarding system will be gradually introduced as these limitations are addressed.
The initiative intends to provide a seamless and paperless travel experience for passengers through biometric verification. Including international travel and foreign nationals on domestic routes marks a significant step forward in the technology’s deployment.
Officials said the pilot will test the system's functionality and passenger acceptance before broader rollout. The project aligns with the government’s push for digital transformation in aviation to enhance efficiency and security.
