Coimbatore's foundry industry has experienced a 20% growth over the past year, driven by rising orders from several sectors. Notably, demand has increased from the automobile, farm equipment, and general engineering industries, boosting foundry activity in the city.
Out of India's annual casting production of about 15 million tonnes, Coimbatore contributes roughly 1.5 million tonnes. The city's casting output is valued at nearly ₹25,000 crore, underscoring its significance to Coimbatore's industrial economy.
Coimbatore also maintains a substantial export market, shipping castings worth around ₹10,000 crore annually.
With steady orders and growing demand across key industries, the sector aims to enhance its footprint beyond the domestic market. Jayakumar Ramdass, Chairman of the Inter Foundry and Inter Diecast event and Managing Director of Mahendra Pumps, Foundry Division, stated that the industry must work on increasing Coimbatore’s share in the global market. The recent surge in orders offers local foundries a chance to strengthen their international casting industry presence.
