Speaking at the 5th edition of the Bay of Bengal Conversation 2026 organized by the Centre for Governance Studies (CGS) in Dhaka, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi addressed questions regarding former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s continued presence in India.

Trivedi emphasized that India acted out of neighborly duty under unforeseen, emergency circumstances when granting landing permission and refuge to Hasina following the sudden collapse of her administration in August 2024. Addressing Bangladesh's request for her extradition, the envoy stated that New Delhi is following a structured legal process and cannot provide a fixed timeline for a final decision.
